Dr. Alan Chen, MD, FACS

A native of Brooklyn, New York, Dr. Alan Chen is a Board Certified Plastic Reconstructive and Hand Surgeon, respected for his extensive work in cosmetic and complex reconstructive surgery. Dr. Chen began his education at Cornell University where he graduated near the top of his class. He attended medical school at Albert Einstein College of Medicine where he received numerous distinctions in academics and community services. Dr. Chen began his surgery training in the Harvard Surgical Service at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center where he was trained by the world-renowned, Dr. Josef E. Fischer. After completing the residency in general surgery at Harvard, he continued his plastic, reconstructive and hand surgery fellowship training at the University of Pittsburgh. There he was trained by the world-renowned, Drs. Andrew W.P. Lee, William Futrell, and Joseph Imbriglia. It is no accident that the University of Pittsburgh is one of the most prestigious places to train plastic surgeons. It has trained more Chiefs of Plastic Surgery than any training program in the world.
Dr. Chen began his plastic surgery career in 2007 after joining Dr. Vic T. Tsai. In 2010, he took over the busy practice and has since expanded the practice to include some of the most complex operations that, at the time, were performed only in major academic university hospitals. Dr. Chen is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. He is currently, the Chief of Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery at Silver Cross Hospital. He also holds clinical faculty positions at the University of Chicago and Midwestern University. Dr. Chen is often seen with numerous medical students learning from him in his busy clinic and in the operating room.
Dr. Alan Chen specializes in cosmetic surgery of the face, breast, body, and hair transplantation. He is a plastic surgeon who has over 20 years of surgery experience including some of the most complex procedures. He has published many articles in peer-review medical and scientific journals and has been invited to give lectures, presentations, and to write chapters in textbooks. Dr. Chen has taught countless number of medical students and surgery residents. Moreover, he donates much of his free time giving lectures to the public about patient safety in plastic surgery. Dr. Chen always stresses that safety is the single most important aspect of patient care. His patients often comment on his calm, caring, and humorous demeanor to be some of his most positive attributes.
